Original Cloth. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. Silas, Ellis (illustratore). Tenth Edition. Tenth printing from 1948. This was the fourth 'Sudden' story which was originally published by Newnes in 1933. The boards have a little rubbing to the corners and edges with some darkening at the top and bottom of the spine but are otherwise clean and unmarked. Page edges browned. Pages a little browned with a small number in pen at the top left corner of the front free endpaper but otherwise unmarked. The jacket has some chipping and tearing around the edges with several pieces missing. The front panel has quarter-inch pieces missing from both the top corners and some creasing and small edge tears. The spine is browned with a quarter-inch piece missing at the top and a one and a half-inch piece missing at the bottom. The rear panel has half-inch pieces missing from the top right and bottom left corners with some closed tears and smaller chips. Jacket illustration by Ellis Silas.

Hardback. Signaller Ellis Silas of the 16th Battalion, Australian Imperial force, was the only artist to paint and sketch actual battle scenes showing Australian soldiers in action at Gallipoli. With his mates he went ashore at Anzac Cove in April 1915 and for the next month he witnessed the terrible carnage at Gallipoli whilst performing his duties as signaller in the thick of the fighting, until he was wounded and had to be taken by hospital ship back to Egypt. The words and sketches of Ellis Silas give us a brilliant and moving eyewitness picture of what it was really like at Gallipoli in 1915. John Laffin has written an introduction and notes for the modern reader to this book which was first published in 1915 under the title "Crusading at Anzac". Rosenberg Publishing, 2010. Second edition. A fine copy only marked by a bookseller sticker to the front pastedown.
