Rafael Alberti gehört zu den großen spanischen Lyrikern des 20. Jahrhunderts. Er stellt eine einzigartige Persönlichkeit der jüngsten spanischen Geschichte dar, da er [.] mit seinen Gedichten die wichtigsten Seiten der zeitgenössischen Poesie gefüllt [.] und die Ekphrasis auf unverkennbare Weise geprägt hat. Die vorliegende Arbeit ist wie folgt gegliedert: Da Albertis Lebensweg einen entscheidenden Einfluss auf sein kreatives Schaffen hatte, beschäftigt sich Kapitel 2.1. mit seiner Biographie. Anschließend wird der Titel der Arbeit Rafael Alberti Maler und Dichter erläutert und die Verschwisterung der Künste, die für Alberti bezeichnend war, aufgezeigt. In Kapitel 2.3. wird sein künstlerisches Schaffen im Allgemeinen beschrieben, wobei seine wichtigsten lyrischen und malerischen Werke erwähnt werden. Kapitel 3 ist Hieronymus Boschs Gemälde Der Garten der Lüste gewidmet. Der einleitenden Bildbeschreibung des Werks folgt die traditionelle Interpretation des Gemäldes. Obwohl sich eine Vielzahl an alchemischen Elementen findet, wird diese Betrachtungsweise in der vorliegenden Arbeit außen vorgelassen, da nach wie vor ungesichert ist, ob Alberti tatsächlich den Alchemikern angehörte und eine Ausführung der alchemischen Elemente und eine Beschreibung deren Symbolwert den Rahmen dieser Arbeit sprengen würde. Kapitel 4 beschäftigt sich wieder mit Rafael Alberti, der Boschs Gemälde in dem Gedicht El Bosco verarbeitet hat. In Kaptitel 4.1. wird einleitend eine kurze Zusammenfassung der Geschichte und Definition der Ekphrasis gegeben, es folgt die Interpretation des Gedichts, die sich aufgrund fehlender Sekundärliteratur auf die Betrachtungsweise und Interpretationsansätze von Delfina Molina und der Verfasserin dieser Arbeit, Simone Zimmermann, stützt. In der anschließenden Schlussbetrachtung werden die Ergebnisse der Arbeit zusammengefasst und kurz dokumentiert. Through reading 'The Chessmen', looking for informatio n on Asian American internet sites, and the biography of Toshio Mori I got a first impression of this subject in general and I got some inside into the working conditions of Japanese gardeners working in the US in the 1930s. Before reading this seven page story I thought that it would be impossible to write sixteen pages about such a short piece of literature, but once I finished reading I realized that there is extraordinary depth to this subject. In my opinion, Toshio Mori's 'The Chessmen' is more than a fictional text dealing with the struggle of two Japanese gardeners trying to keep their job in a nursery in California. The situation Toshio Mori focuses on reflects today's society and the way we have to behave in order to achieve something in life. I decided to base my essay on the facts that are important to fully understand his works, so I began with some background information and dealt with the biography of Toshio Mori and his topics of writing in general. Then I summarized the story. After writing an interpretation of 'The Chessmen' I asked myself what the title of the story might have to do with the contents. Since the relation between George and Nakagawa-san mirrors Darwin's survival of the fittest I tried to transfer this idea into modern times. I ended my paper with a conclusion that states my own opinion about 'The Chessmen'. …
