Bertha Sinclair-Cowan (1871-1940) based her westerns on intimate knowledge of homesteading and western life in Washington, and Montana, and a writing career which sustained herself and her daughter, moves to California where she worked on adaptations of her books for silent film Westerns, and eventual move to Depoe Bay, OR.
