Singer (Hans Wolfgang Singer, a German art historian). The book reproduces Van Dyck's original etchings in Rembrandt photogravure at the full size of the original proofs, with a separate Édition de Luxe featuring carbon print photographs of all the etchings. The subject matter covers the small number of etchings (roughly 15-21) that Anthony van Dyck personally executed, as distinguished from the larger Iconography series in which most plates were engraved by assistants after his drawings. Singer's text discusses Van Dyck's distinctive open-line etching style and its contrast with contemporary line-engraving practices.
