Human activities are progressively reducing the planet's life supporting capacities by adding million tons of Organic Wastes everyday into the environment. Uncontrolled dumping and improper handling of such wastes pose a great risk to human health and subsequent deterioration in the natural climatic conditions. Prevention of environmental degradation has become a matter of serious concern. This is one of the many areas in which prevention is better and much less costlier than the cure. In recent years public attention has focused increasingly on environmental deterioration and its effect on man and other creatures. As such many ideas have been floated for the management of waste disposal but a safer management for disposal of these organic wastes is a burning problem of modern society and great challenge to the scientific community. Amongst all the management methods tried in the world vermicomposting has proved to be the best cheapest and the most effective method for recycling of these wastes into organic manure. All fourteen chapters of the book have been written by subject experts of the country. The first five chapters disclose the various devices of the technology and role of specific species of earthworms in solid waste management. The sixth to eleventh chapters with vermicomposting of different types of organic wastes.
