First Edition & Third Impression. One of the most celebrated novels of the twentieth century and Daphne du Maurier's enduring masterpiece. - Condition & Description; A high-quality facsimile dust jacket accompanies the book, reproduced from the original 1938 Gollancz design and retaining the publisher's price of 8/6 net to the spine. The jacket is protected in a clear archival sleeve. Original black cloth boards with gilt lettering to the spine and front cover. The cloth has been professionally re-inked. There is some fraying and rubbing to the cloth, principally at the head and foot of the spine, together with light wear commensurate with age. The binding remains firm and secure, and the book presents well on the shelf beneath the accompanying facsimile dust jacket. Internally, the pages are complete and tightly bound. There is age-related browning throughout, as commonly found with wartime and pre-war paper stocks. A previous owner has affixed a photographic image of Daphne du Maurier to the copyright page, obscuring part of the publication details. This has been left untouched and forms part of the book's history. Bonus Item: Included with the book is a large-format photocopy newspaper feature discussing Daphne du Maurier and the writing of Rebecca. The article explores the background to the novel, its literary success and aspects of the author's life. A handsome early printing of one of the most influential Gothic novels ever written. - END - Thank you for your interest and I do hope you can buy this beautiful book. - Our orders are shipped within 1 or 2 business days.
