    Wrappers. First Edition of this selection. Fine copy. Inscribed by Alan Clodd, the co-editor, to Arthur Uphill: "Arthur with best wishes 15.vii.96 Alan Clodd". In their preface (reprinted from Gascoyne's Collected Verse Translations, published in 1970) the editors record that they "have greatly benefited" from "the research of Arthur Uphill" In effect a revised edition of Collected Verse Translations (1970), with some work omitted and previously unpublished translations added, including from Hölderlin, Jouve and Mallarmé. The cloth bound issue was limited to 50 copies.Arthur Uphill (1931-2009) joined the staff of Bertram Rota Ltd. in 1955 and worked for the company as a cataloguer for nearly thirty-eight years. He brought to the company an extraordinary depth of knowledge of the expatriate authors living and working in Paris after 1918 and most especially of Gertrude Stein and Samuel Beckett.

Limited edition of 330 copies of which 250 copies were printed on Abbey Mills Cream Antique Laid paper - of which this is one (Mills watermark can be seen). This is not numbered however inscribed as "Author's copy". Pencil inscription on first free end paper. Inscription on first title page SIGNED by the author and dated July 28th 1983: "This book belongs to Jeremy, who of all poets can best understand the poet I might have been. I am consoled by your keeping faith with those invisible guides and guardians." Assume this to be the poet, Jeremy Reed. Signed by Author(s).
