But the owner of the shop misunderstands and sends the children to the ancient Olympic Games instead - in fifth-century BCE Greece! Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. There is but one book in the language admitted by all to be the standard one on Sanctification. It is the work of the Rev. Walter Marshall, published in 1692, The Gospel Mystery of Sanctification. It has at all times received the highest praise from men of eminence both as theologians and as saints. It is much to be regretted that the book is not better known among the members of our Christian churches. This may partly be accounted for by the author's style and treatment of his subject. His editors admit that his style is at times obscure, and that the book requires a more than ordinary attention to read it with profit. According to the fashion of the time, the argument is so broken down into divisions and subdivisions, that it is only by continually referring back and marking his stages carefully that the reader can keep hold of the thread. Such writing is not only wearying, but gives occasion to frequent repetition. What appears to me, however, specially to hinder the interest and usefulness of the work is the introduction of questions, which are indeed of importance as connected with the subject, but still distract the attention of the earnest inquirer who wants a plain answer to the question, how he can be made holy? On this account I have often felt that an abridgment, in which subordinate points were only indicated in passing, and prominence given to the teaching on Sanctification which gives special value to the book, might be the means of giving it a wider circulation and influence. In preparing such an abridgment I have adhered literally to the words of the author. I shall, at the same time, in this introductory note, and in giving, as I venture to do, new headings to the chapters, endeavour to give the reader such a complete view of the argument of the original work, that he can at once see the relation of the larger extracts to the scope of the whole. I have also made use of italics to indicate the thoughts which appear of special importance: though some readers do not require them, there are others to whom it is a real help to have the eye thus aid the mind. Andrew Murray. Slavin, Bill (illustratore).…

Hardback. Condizione: Very Good. The Little Book of Stars tells the story of stellar science and what the stars mean to us from a variety of perspectives. Beginning with the big picture;' the book moves through progressively more and more intimate views until we feel we can hold the stars in our hands, from which we can then throw them back to the sky to see our place among them. The book opens with a summary of the event that created our Universe, the Big Bang, and then goes on to describe the natures of the Big Bang's progeny, the stars-what they are, how they shine, and how they can live such immensely long lives. Approaching horne, it next examines the measures of the stars: where they are, how they are collected together from pairs to galaxies of billions, and how we learn of their individual properties. Yet closer, we look in depth at the Sun and at the physical differences among the stars, at the immense range of properties they possess. Finally, arriving at Earth, we see the signif- icance of the stars to human life, how we have used them to tell our stories and to find where we are in both space and time. v From this base, the book looks more closely at stellar details, concentrating on temporal phenomena-on stellar change-and on the observational base that helps set the stage for the theory that links them all together. Slavin, Bill (illustratore).…

Hardback. Condizione: Fair. Diary of a Wimpy Kid meets Percy Jackson in Odd Gods, the first book in a hilarious illustrated series about the most unlikely, unusual Gods ever to grace the halls of Mount Olympus Middle School. A Summer 2019 Kids' Indie Next Pick! Oddonis may be the son of Zeus, but he's a little bit.odd for a God. He's so odd, in fact, he's not sure if he has any powers at all. And if that isn't enough, his twin brother Adonis is the most popular, most athletic, and most otherworldly handsome God of them all. Oddonis's future at Mount Olympus Middle isn't looking bright, especially when he makes the last-minute decision to run against Adonis to be class president. With the help of his friends Mathena (Goddess of math and poultry), Germes (God of all things sniffling and snotty), Puneous (the smallest God of them all), and Gaseous (enough said?), Oddonis is determined to win the race, prove that his friends are as good as any Greek God, and maybe, just maybe, find out what his true powers really are. Read the hilarious new adventures of Oddonis and his friends from debut children's authors David Slavin and Daniel Weitzman, filled with dozens of black-and-white illustrations by award-winning artist Adam Lane.&nbsp.
