Bifolium. Aged, with the gutter repaired with archival tape, and the reverse of the second leaf adhering to part of its mount. Headed 'Private' and addressed to 'Dear Sir Richard'. His telegram of 16 May reached Roberts in Kashmir, and he 'at once communicated its contents to the Foreign Secretary, but with no result, as I was sorry to find when the Gazette with the Queen's Birthday Honors appeared'. He will however have 'another opportunity of bringing your son's name to the notice of government, for in Sir George White's report on giving up the Command in Burma, Captain Temple's good services are specially alluded to'. (See the Oxford DNB: 'The outbreak in 1885 of the Third Anglo-Burmese War brought Temple once more on active service, and led in 1887 to his being placed in charge of King Thibaw's capital on Thibaw's deposition.') Roberts will be pleased to 'endorse the General's favorable opinion'.
