Condizione: new. Pages: 80 Language: Russian, English. Sergei Mikhailovich Slonimsky (born in 1932) is one of he leading composers of the Russian modern music. His creation embraces actually all the genres - from operas and symphonies to cinematographic sound-tracks. Slonimsky is the author of more than fifty compositions. The cast of performers in his vocal cycles varies from traditional one (voice and piano) to mostly exotic ones (e. g. the new cycle "Three Songs" to the verses by Yevgeny Rein for basso, trombone and wooden beam). Slonimsky addresses to all kinds of poetry, including now the ancient Indian lyrics and David's psalms, now songs of troubadours and the Russian folk songs, now the Silver Age poetry and the one of the composer's younger contemporaries. The offered collection contains six vocal cycles: - to the verses by S. Yesenin, N. Rubtsov, A. Gorodnitsky (per one cycle); - three cycles to the verses by Ye. Rein. All these cycles are united by one common feature. This quality is revealed sh resorting to utility genres, i. e. romance, song, urban tune, variety melody. Nege the composer continues and further works out the intonations, genre peculiarities, measures and imaginative sphere of the poems themselves. Everything is not really as clear as it seems on the surface. If you remove scales from your eyes, the polemical underlying idea will appear before you. Both Yesenin and Rubtsov are represented without their usual affected Slavophile hint. Yesenin occurs to be the lonely and lost soul, while Rubtsov exposes his simple- heartedness and mostly touching defencelessness. The poet Gorodnitsky enjoyed his popularity for his lyrics with guitar accompaniment. Ne is demonstrated here by the poem about the problem, sometimes real impossibility of avu verses to be set to music. The robber's song about the new Vlizapz is given after this, also to Gorodnitsky's words. And finally the composer comes over to Yevgeny Rein. Slonimsky started working with his poetry long ago in the 1950-ies. Rein's language is quite clear and seems to be artless at the first glance. However, it's not deprived of some now ironisa1, now keenly lyrical implication. Slonimsky refracts these concealed purports simultaneously with other moods. The composer sharpens the accents, giving sarcastic hints to taunt and shoge tension to lyricism sh sound. These evident poles penetrate sometimes through each other, becoming nearly unseparable as sh the song of the Japanese saxophonist: Utter me with your saxophone - may Paradise be Hell, Really can we return to our Past as well? Variant: Is Paradise maybe called Hell, let your sax utter at last, Really, can we bring ourselves back somewhere to our Past. Alexander Kharkovsky (translated by Asya Ardova) Contents: Moscow, the Coarse Three Songs to the verses by Sergey Yesenin 1. I Shan' t Deceive Myself 2. At the Curved Moscow Streets 3. Toporov, Requiem for soloists, choir and symphony orchestra (2003), so as numerous choral, chamber-instrumental and vocal compositions. The spring of 2005 was marked by the ballet premi?re of the "Magic Nut" after the tale by E. Th. A. Hoffmann to the libretto by the artist Mikhail Chemiakine, who staged it in the Mariinsky Theatre. It was in 2008, when Slonimsky's oratorial opera "Antigone" after Sophocle's tragedy was firstly staged by A. N. Sokurov at the St. Petersburg Academic Kapelle. Sergei Slonimsky is the People's Artist of Russia, laureate of the Russian State Prize, knight of the orders "Merits before Motherland" and of the Commander Cross of the Order "Merits before the Polish Republic". Slonimsky's opuses are on roll all over the world. Open, clear and somewhat simplified folkloristic song on the verses by Koltzov find themselves at the crest of the lyric song style. Koltzovs images of 'bonny lasses' and 'fair lads', simple peasants, smiths and girls - spinners are the most convincing in the Russian poetry. The 'narrator' of his verses becomes in future Esenin's Poet who sang of the peasant lifestyle, soil of the Motherland and great and mighty Russian people. Chamber vocal works by Slonimsky written on the verses by Koltsov and Esenin gained immense popularity. Those are separate works but they seem to be one cycle because of the common intonation, folklore base (urban lyric), simplicity in choice of means of expressiveness as well as sincere tear present almost in all of them. The musical language in the present cycle is rather simple: deliberately stressed sexts and quarts in melody, vocal part basing on diatonic scale, though delicately outlined by dissonant chords in piano part and open emotion that appeals strongly to the stage artists. The Concerto for viola and chamber orchestra "Tragicomedy" was composed after the unrealized ballet "Crime and Punishment" (this performance after F. M. Dostoyevsky was conceived by Mikhail Chemiakine, Slonimsky's friend and accomplice). The Concerto consists of two movements. Both of them are based on the same serial technique. The first movement "Dramma" embodies Raskolnikov's mental complex saturated with his obsessions. The special expression is achieved by means of the serial elaboration and quarter-tone technique. The second movement "Commedia" originates from buffoonery or chastushka. At any rate there is the element of some playing to dominate, however, being fervent and polysemantic. That's why the second movement exposes all the serial themes of the concerto by both its logic and musical development. 9790660044223.…
