Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Within the martial arts a person will find outrageous claims, and subtle lies. There are tales of ancient masters who had powers usually reserved for Superman or Santa Clause, but there are also instructors who use misleading marketing tactics to entice students to pay to be safe. Few instructors actually tell students that the best way to be safe is to be nice to people and not act like a raving ding-dong anytime someone rubs you the wrong way. One will also find absurd practices and a near brainwashing process where you surrender your critical thinking in favor of herd mentality. It is easy to not question the instructor, or the proceedures and policies of the class and organization. There is a much more difficult road in questioning, but questions must be asked. Wallace Smedley has trained in the martial arts since the early 1980's. He has traveled the path of esoteric and mystical martial arts, spent a few years wandering the musky halls of a McDojo, and trained in very rough self-defense schools. He uses his experience to give the reader an enjoyable and thought provoking book. Plain hard facts, statistical based points, and stories from his many and varied experiences give the reader much to consider, and re-examine. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. A tale of two kings standing on the knife edge of destiny. The Threshold Chronicles follows William of Normandy and Harold Godwinson through the final, shattering moments of Anglo-Saxon England. The story begins long before the shield wall met the mounted shock. It traces the lives of two men brought up in vastly different worlds; William, the iron willed Duke, forged in the violence of Norman politics, and Harold, the last hope of Saxon England, carrying the weight of a kingdom that was already cracking beneath him. Each believes he is the rightful heir. Each believes God is on his side. Each knows only one of them will walk away.As storms, oaths, invasions, and betrayals close in, the narrative moves toward that moment when fates collide on Senlac Hill. The battle is not just a collision of armies, but a collision of identities, of Norman Ambition and English tradition, of continental feudalism and the warrior kingship of the North Sea world. Through their eyes the reader feels the fear, the resolve, and the terrifying clarity that comes when a man realizes that history has placed him at a threshold that he cannot back away from.Told with mythic resonance and historical precision, The Threshold of Conquest reveals the fundamental human cost of 1066; the loyalties strained, the oaths broken, the visions for the future that drove two men to risk everything on a single day. It is the story of how one kingdom died, another was born, and how history turned on the choices of two men who refused to yield. This item is printed on demand.
