Condizione: New. 2009 N&M Press reprint (original pub 1921). SB. 471pp with maps (9 in colour), plans & illustrations. Published Price £22 This is a collective history, authored by its own officers, of the 'Robin Hoods' - the Territorial Army Battalions of the Sherwood Foresters' Regiment; named after the most famous legendary fighting man of their native Nottingham. The Robin Hoods were rushed to France to meet manpower shortages on the western front early in 1915. Though woefully short of ammunition, The 'Terriers' played a vital part in holding the line through the remainder of 1915 and the first six months of 1916 while Kitchener's mass volunteer 'New Armies' were trained. The First Section of the book records the history of the 1st/7th Battalions and their service at Mt. Kemmel; in the Ypres salient at Hooge and the Bluff; at Vimy Ridge; on the Somme at Gommecourt and at St Elie. The Second Section records the history of the 2nd/7th Battalion in Ireland; the Somme, and 3rd Ypres (Passchendaele) as well as Cambrai. The Third Section of the book concerns the history of the 7th Battalion from January 1918 to the end of the war - including the 'blood tub' at Bullecourt. There is also a Fourth Section on the home service of the 3rd/7th Battalion, plus a Roll of Honour and a List of Honours and Awards. his is a full and satisfying unit history. Book.…

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Venture into the tumultuous landscape of British India's North-West Frontier with Harold Carmichael Wylly's 'From the Black Mountain to Waziristan.' This meticulously researched account explores the complex history of the border countries now within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, and the often-violent interactions between the British and the fiercely independent tribes inhabiting the region. Spanning a significant period of history, Wylly's work sheds light on the political and military dynamics that shaped the region. A crucial resource for anyone interested in the history of British India, military history, or the story of the North-West Frontier, 'From the Black Mountain to Waziristan' provides a detailed and compelling narrative of a land marked by conflict and cultural clashes. Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - 'Memories of Forty-Eight Years' Service' is a comprehensive autobiographical account by General Sir Horace Lockwood Smith-Dorrien, detailing a distinguished and expansive career in the British Army. Spanning nearly half a century, the narrative offers an intimate look at some of the most pivotal military campaigns of the late Victorian era and the early twentieth century. Smith-Dorrien recounts his early experiences in the Zulu War and the Egyptian campaigns, providing vivid descriptions of the Battle of Omdurman and his service during the Second Boer War.The memoir reaches a critical climax with the author's command during the opening stages of the First World War, particularly his leadership of the II Corps during the Retreat from Mons and the Battle of Le Cateau. Beyond the tactical details of warfare, the work provides valuable insights into the evolution of military strategy, the inner workings of the British High Command, and the personal challenges faced by a senior commander in the field. This volume serves as an essential historical document for those interested in British imperial history, the development of modern warfare, and the personal reflections of one of the era's most notable military figures. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - The long career of a great soldierThis is the autobiography of Smith-Dorrien , one of the most notable British military figures of the mid-Victorian and Edwardian ages. The author's first experiences of military life were nearly his last and in this book we are given a vital and chilling account of what it was to be one of the few surviving officers to flee from the Zulu impis at Isandlwhana. Interesting service in Egypt, the Sudan, and the Boer War follows as Smith-Dorrien's career develops and he becomes a talented and highly regarded staff officer. His works during the opening campaigns of the Great War are now properly regarded as superb generalship which probably saved the army, but it also earned the enmity of French, his superior, who all but ended his career. A brilliant autobiography by a fine soldier who every reader will come to admire as a military man and a person with each turn of the page.…
