A collection of six essays by William Halse Rivers Rivers…, [ 1864 - 1922 ] who is perhaps best known for his work treating First World War officers who were suffering from shell shock. Rivers' most famous patient was the poet Siegfried Sassoon. In Sassoon's autobiography ( written under the guise of The Memoirs of George Sherston) Rivers is one of the few characters to retain their original names. There is a whole chapter devoted to Rivers and he is immortalised by Sassoon as a near demi-god who saved his life and his soul. 475 grams.
