One title stamp and ornate presentation front pastedown bookplate "The Purple Collection Presented to the Library of the Medical Society of the County of Kings by the Twelve Members of the Society", all twelve names in illustrated border. Corner wear, sunned boards, old dampstains to beginning and end pages. 19th century rabies cases with symptomatic difficulty in swallowing, hence the panic when patient is offered liquids. Smith "was one of the founding fathers of the American Pediatric Society and the chief pioneer in American pediatrics". The AAP Council on Community pediatrics awards the prestigious Job Lewis Smith Award yearly (since 1980).
