Dust jacket rubbed with bumping at edges; spine heel nicked; faint staining at rear panel's lower left and lower rear flap but more evident on dj's blank verso; front flap is not price-clipped. Gray boards with fore-edge corners lightly bumped; bright silver stamping to spine; strong bumping at spine heel and to front board's adjacent bottom left corner; some dj peeling residue adhered to rear board's lower left. Slender soiling to text block's bottom edge with short swath of red marker adjacent to spine. Author's four-line ink inscription "To Carl, | with best wishes, | Patrick Smith | 12-2-03" on the front free endpaper. Light soiling at bottom margin of page 199; interior pages are otherwise clean. Binding retains some crispness. Later novel by Mississippi-born author Patrick D. Smith who graduated from Ole Miss in 1947 and whose first book was published to in 1953 launching a career as a novelist during which he was nominated thrice for the Pulitzer Prize and was awarded with a 1999 induction to the Florida Artists Hall of Fame.
