Hardcover (Original Cloth). Condizione: Very Good+. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good-. Early Printing. A collectible copy from Snell's series (Mattson & Davis # 41800) in the original dust jacket with 50-cent pricing. First published in 1927, this copy is dated to a 1935 printing since the list of nine titles in the series on the rear flap of the dust jacket ends with Mystery Wings, published in 1935. The flap also lists 15 titles in Mystery Stories for Girls (to Gypsy Flight) and has seven titles For Younger Boys and Girls (to An Eskimo Robinson Crusoe). From the blurb on the front flap: "This is really a dual story, citing the adventures of two boy chums, but the incidents are so interwoven as to constitute a delightful whole. They have one common enemy, a crafty, unscrupulous Spaniard, and the action centers around the efforts of the boys to circumvent his plots to rob those dear to them." Size: Small Quarto (9-11"). 282 pages. Item Type: Book. Text block is tight and unmarked. The paper is tanned from age though the paper is flexible and not brittle. Very Good hardcover. The binding itself is Near Fine in Mattson & Davis' Format #1: 7 3/4" x 5 3/8" red cloth with title and author's name in black enclosed in a double-ruled rectangle. Corners are sharp; only slight shelf wear at the tips and foot of the spine. The reason for listing as Very Good+ overall is because of the tanning of the cheap paper. No foxing in this copy. The unclipped (50 cents) dust jacket is in Very Good-minus condition. There is wear along the top and bottom edges. The major defect is a 2-inch tear from the head of the front flap's fold that cuts diagonally into the top right edge of the illustration on the front panel. There are 1-inch tears at the head of the spine's front fold and foot of the rear fold. Wear with some loss at the head of the spine. Small chips at the head and foot of the fold for the rear flap. The dust jacket is now protected in a clear archival Brodart sleeve. A previous seller has marked information in pencil at the top outside corner of the front and rear end papers. Illustrator: R. A. K. Quantity Available: 1. Category: Teens & Young Adult; United States; 1930s; Fiction. Main Picture: Snell (1927), Forbidden Cargoes - Front panel and spine of the dust jacket. Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. NOT ILLUSTRATED, Back flap Mentions Mysteries stories for Boys Thru Arrow of fire, Curlie Carson thru Invisible wall, & for girls Thru Green Eyes, HBDJ, 1930 , 1ST EDITION, EARLY Issue, Back flap Lists Ends with This title, NF/ VG, AS-IS, It is the only book on the front dust jacket flap and at the bottom it states that "(A complete list of Roy J. Snell's Mystery Stories for Boys and Girls will be found on the back jacket flap.)" and this title is the last book listed. , 5 X 8 IN. 265 pgs, Tiny Extremities & edge Chips, Bluish green Cloth Titled in Black, this appear to be volume #10 out of 18-volume series. The listing on the dust jacket flap appears to be out of order as "The Gypsy Shawl" #9 comes before "Green Eyes". dust jacket has chipping, pieces missing, closed tears, light soiling, color loss, wear along the fold of the dust jacket flaps, and spots on the back flap. It displays nicely in an archival mylar dust jacket cover. boards of the book show normal wear with bumped spine ends, soiling/marks. From having the book open there is a raised area along the spine. The pages are of quality stock that are age-toned. The book has deckled page edges that curl somewhat when the book is open. There are pages near the back of the book that have light crease lines. The front & back endpages have shadowing from the dust jacket flaps. The front cover is a little warped but it really isn't that noticeable with the dust jacket on.
