The series' two hour premiere was released as a made-for-TV movie and released theatrically in March 1979. The twentieth century astronaut Buck Rogers emerges out of 500 years of suspended animation in the twenty-fifth century and becomes Earth's greatest hero. In this episode, the Earth Defense Directorate send Buck and Wilma to the planet Vistula to investigate their poison food supply, to discover a world engaged in slave labor run by a fanatical religious leader and slave trader, Kaleel, who has paranormal powers.
