Cloth. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. First Edition. First Edition and Printing. A NEAR FINE, bright, clean, tight, collector-worthy copy sans rips/tears, stains, markings, discoloration, etc. PROLIFICALLY ILLUSTRATED in black-and-white photography (all full page) with accompanying descriptive captions. "…Like most Jews living in Berlin, Herbert Sonnenfeld lost his job in 1933. He decided to visit Palestine, where he photographed the poor refuges in that undeveloped country. When he returned to Berlin, his pictures appeared in a Zionist newspaper, and his career in photojournalism was launched. His wife, Leni, soon became his assistant and then a photographer in her own right. After the couple came to America in 1939, they were able to travel farther afield, and they spent the rest of their lives taking pictures of Jewish communities around the world. This mesmerizing book is a selection of their best photographs." 127 pages. GE1.

First Edition. Fine cloth copy in an equally fine dw. Particularly and surprisingly well-preserved; tight, bright, clean and especially sharp-cornered. Literally as new and still in the publisher's protective shrink-wrap.; 127 pages; Description: vii, 127 p. : chiefly ill. ; 24 cm. Subjects: Sonnenfeld, Leni --Sonnenfeld, Herber…t (1906-1972) --Photojournalists --United States --Biography --Jews --History --20th century --Pictorial works. Summary: Two pioneering photojournalists present stunning photographs that document key moments in the experiences of the Jewish people from 1933 to the presentLike most Jews living in Berlin, Herbert Sonnenfeld lost his job in 1933. He decided to visit Palestine, where he photographed the poor refugees in that undeveloped country. This mesmerizing book is a selection of their best photographs. The images tell the story of Jewish life in prewar Berlin of Youth Aliyah, a Palestine emigration program and of Jewish communities from Iran to Morocco to Spain. Recording the arrival in Israel of Jews from all over the Diaspora, the Sonnenfelds document the creation and evolution of the Israeli nation. These haunting photographs, along with Leni Sonnenfeld's moving reminiscences, are a testament to the Jewish experience in the twentieth century. Leni Sonnenfeld (1907-2004) became a photojournalist in the 1930s and stopped working only a few years before her recent death. Her photographs were featured in such publications as the New York Times, Jewish Week, Daily News, Esquire, and Hadassah magazine. 1 Kg.

Leni Sonnenfeld sah sich eher als Geschichten-Erzählerin, denn als Journalistin.
