Reprocessing Reality is conceived as a curator's essay that makes us acutely aware of the power of imagery as well as its shortcomings. It revolves around media, people, and stories. Taking stock of an environment formed by ambiguities and interdependencies, the project deals with issues that concern the reader's own context of life. Three introductory essays discuss the subject of the documentary from three different perspectives: that of the visual arts, the documentary film, and the mass media. The main focus of the publication is on the artists themselves, and their contribution to the current discourse is presented by an extensive set of illustrations and accompanied by their own texts.

In der Ausstellung zeigt er eine Serie von unvollständigen Landschaftsbildern. Er bezieht sich damit au…f die Jahrhunderte alte malerische Tradition, bricht aber den Bezug zur Geschichte. Nicht ohne Ironie hinterfragt er künstlerisches Könnertum und mittels dekonstruierten Erzählungen wird unsere Wahrnehmung herausgefordert. Die Bilder von Julie Mehretu sind sehr offen angelegt: Die teils abstrakten und teils konkreten Motive scheinen sich in einer Art Zwischenstadium zu befinden; entweder entstehen die Kompositionen eben erst vor unserem Auge, oder sie sind daran sich aufzulösen. Virtuos webt die Malerin eine Unzahl von Motiven ineinander. Mehretus Malerei ist denn auch voller Spannung und Energie und zeigt aber immer wieder ganz poetische Feinheiten. Thematisch verweist ihr Werk auf urbane, architektonische und topographische Inhalte. Hans Stalder nimmt in seinen relativ kleinformatigen Bildern Sujets wie Blumen, Vögel, Frauenfiguren oder Porträts auf, wobei er seriell an einem Motiv arbeitet und sich von Bild zu Bild vom Prototyp entfernt. Dabei beschäftigt sich der Künstler mit der Redundanz in der Bildsprache, indem er sich auf die Grenze der Lesbarkeit zu bewegt.
