[8], 408 pages plus unpaged b/w plates. Hardcover: H 19.25cm x L 13cm. No dust jacket (i.e. lacking). Red cloth; spine cloth abraded/mottled adversely affecting author and publisher lette…ring; spine end frayed; light soiling and comparatively minor mottling to boards with worn corners. Text block edges toned; small slender stain at lower fore-edge with some leaves affected at margins; personal numbered bookplate "Private Library | J.O. St. Clair, | Detroit" on front pastedown. Front and rear hinges are shaken but text block remains firm. Total of ten St. John illustrations all present as called for on "Illustrations" page - nine b/w plates on unpaged leaves plus b/w map of Pal-ul-Don (done by Burroughs) on page 402. Book now presented in a trimmed clear Dura-Lar (polyester film) sheet forming a dj which aids the compromised hinges and modestly enhances shelf appearance.

White dust jacket heavily soiled; front panel features same St. John color illustration that decorates book's first edition dj; shallow chipping at spine and flap fold ends; long bust mostly closed tears ascending from heels of front flap fold a…nd spine with latter also having toned impression/residue from removed old tape repair which overlaps spine's bottom right and front panel's bottom left corner; minor nicks and negligible tears at panel and flap edges; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Red cloth with black stamping to spine and front board; light stains at front board's center left and top right corner with latter shallowly affecting top corners of several initial leaves; slight fraying at spine ends. Green top edge; light toning and a few foxing spots to fore-edge and bottom edge. Light toning to endpapers which are illustrated with maps of Amtor; past owner's slender name-address label affixed over earlier regular pencil and blue pencil inscriptions at top left of front pastedown and front free endpaper's top right; impression from erased pencil "x" mark on title page; interior pages are otherwise clean. Binding is firm. A very good- copy in a good dust jacket.
