With these goals in mind, the book is divided into three parts: Part I pays tribute to the interdisciplinary nature of data science and provides a common understanding of data science terminology for readers with different backgrounds. These six chapters are geared towards drawing a consistent picture of data science and were predominantly written by the editors themselves. Part II then broadens the spectrum by presenting views and insights from diverse authors - some from academia and some from industry, ranging from financial to health and from manufacturing to e-commerce. Each of these chapters describes a fundamental principle, method or tool in data science by analyzing specific use cases and drawing concrete conclusions from them. The case studies presented, and the methods and tools applied, represent the nuts and bolts of data science. Finally, Part III was again written from the perspective of the editors and summarizes the lessons learned that have been distilled from the case studies in Part II. Mehr als hundert Briefe wurden in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Ja…hrhunderts in der Familie Abbühl, genannt Kätters, zwischen dem Berner Oberland und den USA ausgetauscht. Die ältesten verfasste der 1851 ausgewanderte Arnold Abbühl. Mehrheitlich stammen die Briefe von seinen Nichten und Neffen, den sechs Geschwistern Abbühl, von denen vier eine neue Heimat in Nordamerika suchten. Sowohl die Schreiben der ausgewanderten Melchior, Kaspar und Anna Abbühl sind grösstenteils erhalten geblieben wie auch diejenigen von Katharina, Margaretha und Arnold an ihre Geschwister in der Ferne. Die Briefe erlauben tiefe Einblicke in die damaligen Lebensverhältnisse im Haslital und in Amerika.Die Briefe der Auswanderer Abbühl berichten von der Reise über den Atlantik, von Landwirtschaft, Wetter und Katastrophen, vom Alltag und vom Zusammenleben in Nordamerika; die Daheimgebliebenen erzählen von wirtschaftlichen und politischen Entwicklungen, von Unglücksfällen im Haslital, von Klatsch, Strassenbau, Krankheit und Schicksalsschlägen sowie vom Heimweh und vom Fernweh. Dieser reiche Schatz der Kätter-Briefe wird ergänzt durch zeitgenössische Fotografien, biografische Kommentare sowie Erläuterungen zum historischen Kontext. 1100 gr. Schlagworte: Helvetica - Bern.
