Prima edizione Copia autografata
Condizione sovraccoperta: dj. First Edition. First edition. Number 2 of ONLY 25 COPIES SIGNED BY STANHOPE. After her career as an actress was derailed by the outbreak of WWII, the indomitable Stanhope worked as a radio mechanic for the Women's Royal Naval Service and then in various jobs before re-training as a teacher in the early 1950s -- and all the while her poetry was appearing in various literary and other magazines. Then, just a year after this first book of poetry was published, Stanhope suffered a debilitating spinal injury that left her partially paralyzed and in chronic pain. She continued to teach and write but never attained the recognition for her poetry this slender volume demonstrates she deserved. 8vo gilt-stamped black cloth boards; 48 pages. Fine in bright, near fine dust jacket with just a few tiny nicks and tears including one that traverses the head of the spine (internally repaired with archival tape). Understandably rare. Signed.
