Ashton Stevens (1872-1951) was an American drama critic who was well-acquainted with many famous playwrights and stage performers. Bound in brown balloon cloth (spine #7) with Kent end papers and a BEAUTIFUL pictorial dust jacket. Many later printings of this modern library title still include "First Modern Library Edition 1933" on the copyright page but the later printings include a list of copyrights for all the stories included in the book. This is the case with this copy from 1937. The book is VERY GOOD. Binding solid and tight with some fading, bright gilt on cover and faded on spine, bright matching topstain. Contents are clean with no owner's signature or other writing in text other than price in pencil. The beautiful pictorial dust jacket is GOOD+ with chipping and heavy age toning to spine and front panel is nearly separated from spine but complete and held together by dj protector. 95 cent price present and bright on inside flap.
