Nato a Bologna il 30 luglio 1960, dove si è diplomato in pianoforte e laureato in Discipline della Musica, ha collaborato per vari anni con l'Archivio dell'Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna e ha partecipato in veste di relatore a convegni e congressi musicologici. Ha scritto saggi per i teatri di Bologna, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Roma e Verona, e articoli su riviste specializzate quali Quadrivium, Subsidia Musica Veneta e Musica/Realtà. I suoi ambiti di ricerca hanno spaziato dal tardo madrigale italiano all'opera comica settecentesca, dalla musica per pianoforte alla storiografia e all'estetica musicali italiane dell'Otto e Novecento. Nel 2000, per le celebrazioni dell'Anno Giubilare nella Basilica di Sant'Antonio a Padova ha curato con altri una ricerca finalizzata alla prima riesecuzione in epoca moderna della Resurrezione di Lazzaro di Antonio Calegari.
