Zur Exemplifizierung seiner Ausführungen zieht Steinheil die Bestimmung des Malzgehaltes der Biere von 42 Münchner Brauereien heran und kommt z…u dem Ergebnis: "Die Vergleichung der Malzgehalte der Münchner Biere mit diesen Bestimmungen zeigt, dass nur ein Viertel der Brauhäuser in Malzgehalt über der Verordnung ist, dass die schwächsten aber zwei Siebentel mehr Bier vom Schäffel Malz brauen, als nach der Verordnung bestimmt ist, oder aber sehr geringe Malzsorten und sehr unvollkommene Maischungsmethoden haben müssten". Carl August von Steinheil (1801-1870) Physiker, Astronom, Optiker und Unternehmer, wurde 1842 von der bayerischen Regierung beauftragt, die bayerischen Maße und Gewichte zu regulieren. Im Zusammenhang mit diesen Arbeiten erwarb er sich Verdienste um die Verbesserung der Bier- und Spirituswaagen.

Steinheil's paper: pp. 590-593. A faint dampstain in upper margin, otherwise clean and fine. First printing of Morse's French announcement of his first s…uccessfull display of his invention at an 1838 exhibition in New York (January 6) where Morse transmitted 10 words per minute. He had retired his number-word dictionary, using instead the dot-dash code directly for letters. Although other changes would eventually be made, the Morse Code that would become standard throughout the world had been born. In the paper he also gives full credit to Carl August von Steinheil for his discoveries concerning the electrical telegraph.In the paper Steinheil describes his own telegraph and its predecessors. In reality, Steinheil's telegraph was the first recording telegraph, and it predating Morse.

Versichert einem nicht namentlich genannten Freund den baldigen Erhalt eines Spektralapparates: "In Erwiederung deiner freundlichen Zeilen vom 11. d. muß ich die gegebene Versicherung wiederholen, daß du ganz bestimmt einen der ersten Apparte [sic] für die Kirchhoff'sche Lichtanalyse bekommen wirst. Die Apparate sind… wohl noch nicht fertig aber weit vorgeschritten so daß wenn ich in 12 Tagen die Lampen u. Träger bekomme du Kirchhoff in Heidelberg machen läßt bis dahin 12 Apparate, (einer davon an dich) abgeschickt werden. Du wirst also den Apparat wohl in 14 Tagen haben". - 1852 erfand Steinheil zusammen mit Léo Foucault eine Methode für die Verspiegelung von Glasoberflächen mihilfe einer dünnen Silberschicht, die in Spiegelteleskopen Anwendung fand. Auf persönlichen Wunsch des bayerischen Königs Maximilian II. gründete er 1855 eine optische Werkstätte in Schwabing, in der er mit seinen beiden Söhnen zusammenarbeitete. Die Werkstätte stellte hochwertige Teleskope und Spektroskope sowie das erste Fotometer her. - Auf Briefpapier mit gedr. Briefkopf: "C. A. Steinheil optische u. astronomische Werkstätte in München". Spuren alter Faltung.

Haupt-Münz-Amte dahier richtig erhalten zu haben hiermit bescheinigt [.]" - Steinheil wurde 1835 zum Konservator der mathematisch-physikalischen Sammlung des Staates ernannt und gleichze…itig als Professor für Mathematik und Physik an die Universität München berufen. Er machte sich einen Namen als Pionier der Photographie, der Telegraphie und des Teleskopbaus. Das hier quittierte Kupfervitriol diente zur Herstellung von Batterien zum Betrieb von Telegraphen, wie Steinheil sie 1849 im Polytechnischen Journal 1849 beschrieben hat ("Beschreibung und Vergleichung der galvanischen Telegraphen Deutschlands"). Die verwendeten Batterien bestanden aus "Kupferblech [.] in Kupfervitriol, das amalgamirte Zinkblech in verdünnter Schwefelsäure." - Randschäden. - Selten. Gewicht (Gramm): 20.
