Aggiungi al carrello[Amsterdam], KIT Publishers, [2012]. 152 pp. B./w. photos. orig. hardcover Pictorial boards). 4to. This is the fourth volume of a series of ten books that discuss the collections of the Tropenmuseum and the histories and stories that accompany them. The books elucidate the often hidden backgrounds of a museum collection, discussing objects within their original context, social histories and their contemporary meaning. The main emphasis lies on the history of each collection, with its different collecting and presentation practices placed in a particular time and place. Each volume is richly illustrated with objects and photographs from the Tropenmuseum collection. Photographs of the Netherlands East Indies at the Tropenmuseum offers a comprehensive introduction to one of the most important collections of colonial photography in the world. There is no other collection at the Tropenmuseum which is so closely tied to the history of the institute itself.

Aggiungi al carrello[Amsterdam], [Koninklijk Instituut voor de Tropen], [1997], 1997. 95 pp. B./w. ills. Softcover. Oblong 8vo.A harder to find photo book these days. Published in conjunction with the exhibition "Julius Muller, Suriname 100 jaar geleden" in honor of the fiftieth anniversary of the Stichting Surinaams Museum, Paramaribo, April 29, 1997. - Text in Dutch. - - Julius Eduard Muller (Paramaribo, November 20, 1846 - ibid., November 20, 1902) was a Surinamese civil servant, entrepreneur, politician, and amateur photographer. He photographed subjects he encountered professionally or considered important as a member of parliament. He took photos of plantations, gold mining, farm settlers and other immigrants, and cityscapes of Paramaribo. Muller used dry gelatin glass plates and albumen paper, the most common photographic materials around 1880. No negatives of his photographs are known to exist. His first photograph dates from 1883. The equipment Muller used was likely acquired during his time in the Netherlands. He never adopted newer photographic techniques.
