    hard cover. Condizione: Good. No jacket. Boston: Charles H. Peirce. 1848. Harcover, no jacket. 490pp. Olive stamped cloth boards with gilt titling and decoration to spine. Good condition. Boards are moderately worn, with fabric wear through at the tips. Some dust spotting to page edges. Foxing at the front and back, and very heavy on the title page and frontis. Most of the remaining is pretty clean with scattered foxing and no markings. Binding is square and secure, though one signature is a bit loose. "Biographical notices of its early preachers, sketches of its first churches, and reminiscences of its early struggles and successes." (cfm).

    Decorated Hard Cover. Condizione: Poor. No Jacket. First Edition. Dark green binding with blind stamped Designs on front and rear covers. Spine has ornate gold colored print and design embossed on it. Covers have light rub wear and a few spots where surface is disrupted. Very light bumping at corners with teeny amount of cloth loss on one. End papers are grey. Front hinge is loose and rear hinge is separated. Text is tight, sound and unmarked. Very good condition except hinges. Foxing at frontspiece and title page. Tissue sheet has torn bottom. 490 pages .

Stevens was associate professor, department of religion at Catholic University, Washington, D.C.; also director of studies for theological students at St. Anselms Abbey. He died at the age of 37. Written in ink on cover beneath his name: "adopted son of Sister M. Benedicta Stahl." Previous owner's gift inscription on blank front endpaper.
