Hardcover. Condizione: Good. 3rd Edition. The boards are rubbed with small stains, with some bumping to the edges, small rips and fraying to both ends of spine. Tanning and marked page edges, label to inside cover and pen marks. The binding is firm. The pages are clean with some tanning with mild foxing and appear crease free. This book has 368 pages. All in all a nice example of this book.

Spine end darkened with some moisture staining on back board. Evidence of moisture staining on page ends that does not extend to the pages themselves. Previous owner has taped a typed description of the book on the front pastedown. Slight hint of spine separation in front of book back hinge still solid.

Major Stiles graduated from Yale in 1859 and served with the Richmond Howitzers as Major in the Army of Northern Virginia. Krick: "Perspicacious account of war experiences is a classic Confederate book. Stiles saw most of the battles of the Army of Northern Virginia and was able to provide perceptive remarks on most of its prominent officers based on first hand experience." From Nevins: "An informative and entertaining memoir by a very intelligent member of Lee's army; particularly good for the 1864-1865 campaigns.".
