Reliure bradel demi toile bronze à larges coins, pièce de titre en cuir rouge au dos, fleuron doré au centre du dos, tête dorée, non rogné. Couvertures conservées (le premier plat de couverture est cassé dans la marge intérieure et détaché). Quelques minimes marques à la reliure qui reste solide. Intérieur très frais. Le faux titre qui porte l'envoi autographe est légèrement teinté et le verso du dernier feuillet est uniformément bruni par l'acidification du deuxième plat de couverture en regard. Sinon les pages sont d'une rare fraîcheur et imprimées ici sur un très beau papier de Hollande (voir ci-dessous le détail du tirage). Avec lettres autographes ajoutées par P.-V. Stock lui-même (voir détail ci-dessous). Edition originale. Un des 5 exemplaires tirés à part sur papier de Hollande (n°I). Exemplaire de la bibliothèque de l'éditeur de l'ouvrage Paul-Victor Stock, avec dédicace autographe de l'auteur. P.-V. Stock, comme à son habitude pour les exemplaires de sa bibliothèque personnelle, a ajouté au moment de la reliure un certain nombre de documents autographes dont voici la liste : - billet autographe de l'anarchiste et journaliste Charles Malato (qui explique que malgré sa bonne volonté il ne pourra émettre une critique totalement favorable à cet ouvrage trop "militariste" pour lui. - dessin de l'auteur (carte du dispositif au début de 1870) - 5 lettres autographes de l'auteur adressées à P.-V. Stock sur la mise en train de l'édition de l'ouvrage Volant dans le volume on trouve également : - 4 billets autographes de l'auteur adressées à l'éditeur Albert Savine (premier éditeur pressenti pour publier cet ouvrage) - 1 longue lettre autographe de l'auteur adressée à l'éditeur Albert Savine qui défend l'ouvrage à publier (manifeste). Les lettres sont repliées avec quelques petites déchirures et plis, sans gravité. Gustave Nercy, ancien commandant de cavalerie, n'hésite pas à avancer que « dans leur langage imagé, les Arabes affirment qu'il vaut mieux un régiment de chèvres conduit par un lion qu'un régiment de lions conduit par une chèvre » , manière politiquement incorrecte de dire que, selon le vieil adage militaire, c'est la qualité du chef qui fait la qualité de la troupe. (cité dans Obtenir l'obéissance d'une armée de masse, par François Cochet) Suite de la fiche descriptive en dernière photo d'annonce. Bon exemplaire de cet exemplaire unique du très rare tirage sur Hollande (5 ex.) provenant de la bibliothèque de l'éditeur P.-V. Stock. Gustave NERCY (cartes) (illustratore). Signé par l'auteur.
