Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. First Edition. Hardcover; no dustjacket. "With fac-similes of water-color sketches by H. W. McKivar". SD; NAP. Edgeworn, and with some surface soil to the binding. Hinges cracked; shaken. All 12 color plates are present; most are detached, and the last two have been cut out and have been neatly trimmed to a smaller size (unless this is how they were issued? ). There is a bit of edgewear at the fore-edge of a couple of the detached plates, that does not affect the image. The plates are somewhat age-toned, but the colors are still quite good. One has tape residue on the verso, and has a 2" closed tear at the upper fore-edge (not affecting the main image). The page edges are age-darkened The text pages are a bit age-toned and there is foxing to some pages, mostly toward the front and rear. The foxing hasn't afflicted the plates however. This is a fairly heavy book; Priority and/or International may require shipping over and above standard costs. ; Color Illustrations; 30C; 11" x 8-3/4"; 76 pages. Illustrated by H. W. McVickar (illustratore).…

Aggiungi al carrelloFirst Edition. New York: Frederick A. Stokes Co., 1914. 1st ed. Passing the Progressive Torch: An Exceptional Association Copy of Brandeis's Antitrust Masterpiece, Inscribed by Felix Frankfurter to One of His "Happy Hot Dogs" Brandeis, Louis D. [1856-1941]. Other People's Money and How the Bankers Use It. New York: Frederick A. Stokes Company, [1914]. First edition, first issue. Octavo (190 x 125 mm). xiv, [2], 223 pp. Publisher's original olive-drab cloth, front board and spine lettered in gilt. Small, faint stain to front board; light rubbing and wear to spine ends and corners; majority of gilding rubbed away from spine title. Text block moderately toned due. A very good, structurally sound copy. Gift inscription from U.S. Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter to his protege and prominent New Deal attorney, Francis M. Shea, on the front free endpaper. Housed in a custom green morocco clamshell box. $2,500. * First edition of Brandeis's landmark Progressive Era critique of "Our Financial Oligarchy," based on his series of articles published in Harper's Weekly from 1913 to 1914. This copy boasts an exceptional legal association, representing a rare, multi-generational lineage of American progressive jurisprudence. The inscription on the front free endpaper reads: "To Francis Shea / With the cordial regards / & good wishes of / Felix Frankfurter." Published just two years before Brandeis's historic appointment to the Supreme Court, "Other People's Money" serves as the definitive text of the Progressive Era's war on monopolies. It directly influenced Woodrow Wilson's "New Freedom" platform and laid the intellectual groundwork for the Federal Trade Commission and the Clayton Antitrust Act. Brandeis and Felix Frankfurter (1882-1965) shared one of the most famous mentorships in American legal history; when Brandeis ascended to the high court in 1916, Frankfurter effectively took over his role as the chief intellectual advisor to the progressive movement. Frankfurter subsequently used his post at Harvard Law School to funnel his brightest students, affectionately nicknamed his "Happy Hot Dogs," directly into FDR's New Deal administration to implement these very ideals. This copy was inscribed by Frankfurter to one of those prized students, Francis M. Shea (1905-1989; LL.B., 1928). By gifting this specific text to Shea, Frankfurter was quite literally passing down.
