Originally published in 1922, this uses fiction to as an introduction to the race problem in America, and especially the effects of the northward migration in the early 20th century. "To all the young men and women of the 20th century who have caught the vision and are working to usher in the day when…individuals of all races everywhere shall have a fair chance at the good things of life." It begins with an almost successful lynching and continues with J.W. becoming involved in the work of the Methodist Episcopal Church among American Negroes. Illustrated with photographs showing African-Americans at work and in educational settings, mostly in the South. A title in the Black Heritage Library Collection. 179 pp. Ex-library with the usual markings, but overall tight and clean in black cloth, no dust jacket as issued.
