C arl Friedrich Strauch aus St. Petersburg versuchte seine eigenen Schwierigkeiten der Hornhauttransplantation mit der Erfindung eines zunächst sehr verwirrend anmutenden Verfahrens zu l…ösen. Das Versuchstier, in Strauch Fall war ein Kaninchen, sollte durch Festhalten in einem mit Pflasterstreifen umwickelten Leinensack ruhig gestellt, der Kopf des Tieres von einem Gehilfen gehalten werden. Der Operateur durchsteche sodann die Cornea mit einer zweischneidigen Nadel und führte sie mit anhängendem Faden auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite heraus, nachdem er den Schaft zunächst zurückgezogen habe, um das Auge möglichst wenig zu verletzten. Dann greife der Gehilfe beiden Fadenenden und fixiere damit das Auge. Nun sollte der Operateur die Hornhaut mit einem doppelten Starmesser durchstechen, wodurch wegen der "eigenthümlichen Form des Messers" ein gleichmäßig runder Lappen herausgeschnitten wurde. daraufhin werde der in der Vorderkammer liegende Faden durchtrennt und jedes Ende mit einer Nadel versehen, der nach obiger Methode aus dem Spenderauge gewonnene Hornhautlappen an gegenüberliegenden Rändern von jenen Nadeln durchstochen und das Transplantat durch Anziehen der Fäden fixiert. Es ist sicherlich ein beachtliches Bestreben Stauchs, dem Problem durch technische Verfeinerung Abhilfe zu schaffen und zudem symptomatisch für diese Phase in der Geschichte der Keratoplastik. -cf.Göschel, Gesch.
