This publication marks the occasion of the exhibition of P. Struycken's work at the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, the Van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven, the Boymans-Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam and the Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerp, 1974/75. Very good copy, with some creases in the cover (as usual). - This is the catalog of the 1974-1975 traveling exhibition P. Struycken, that marked a pivotal moment in the recognition of Peter Struycken as a leading figure in systematic abstraction and computer-generated art in the Netherlands. Organized by the Department of Recent Art History at Utrecht State University, the exhibition was curated by a team comprising Marion Jobse, Toos van Kooten, Christien Lunshof, and Piet Sol, under the supervision of Carel Blotkamp and Frans Haks. Struycken's work during this period was characterized by the use of algorithmic processes to generate visual compositions. Employing computer programs, he explored the interplay between order and randomness, creating works that were both systematic and dynamic. His approach involved the translation of mathematical sequences into visual forms, resulting in pieces that challenged traditional notions of artistic authorship and creativity. Struycken's closest affinities lie with François Morellet, Vera Molnár, and Manfred Mohr, all of whom explored system, algorithm, and abstraction as central to visual language, each in slightly different way. This accompanying catalog, designed by Anthon Beeke, was notable for its innovative format: a square publication with a horizontal split separating images and text. Spanning 84 pages, it included illustrations of Struycken's works, a comprehensive list of exhibited pieces, and essays that delved into his methodologies and conceptual frameworks. The catalog served not only as documentation of the exhibition but also as an extension of Struycken's exploration into the fusion of art and technology. This exhibition and its catalog played a significant role in contextualizing Struycken's contributions within the broader discourse of contemporary art, highlighting his innovative use of computational systems to redefine visual expression. Condition : verygood copy. Keywords : ART, Struycken, Peter (1939-).
