Drawing Credits. Soft cover has front and back flaps. Name of previous owner on fep. Some ink underlining and marks noted. Introduction by Stanley Tigerman. This is documenting the exhibition of the same name organized by Laurence Booth, Stuart E. Cohen, Stanley Tigerman, and Benjamin Weese. First three sheets had been separated from the binding and has been reglued in place. It states on page 12 that "The object of the collection of building discussed here is to act as a catalyst to the growing opinion that revisionist histories of Chicago's place in twentieth century architecture are long overdue and to present work that represents sensibilities and intellectual ideas not usually associated with Chicago. While the buildings selected are intended to indicate the range and variety of Chicago's unknown architecture, the selection is narrow and chosen primarily for idea and aesthetic merit, formal rather than just technological significance. Clearly, more has been omitted than has been included. The focus is largely historical for it should be left to others, at a later date, to finally evaluate the work of architects practicing in Chicago today." Stuart Cohen, FAIA, is a practicing architect, educator, and author. He is a fellow of the American Institute of Architects and is professor of architecture emeritus at the University of Illinois, Chicago. Cohen is the author of three books on the history of Chicago architecture including a book on the houses of Howard Van Doren Shaw. His latest book is Frank L. Wright and the Architects of Steinway Hall: A Study in Collaboration. A monograph on the residential architectural work of his firm, Transforming the Traditional: The Work of Cohen & Hacker Architects, was published in 2009. Cohen received a 2018 Arthur Ross Award from the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art for his contributions to architectural history and theory. Stanley Tigerman (September 20, 1930 - June 3, 2019) was an American architect, theorist and designer. In 1961, Tigerman established a small practice. From 1964 until his retirement in 2017, Tigerman was a principal of Stanley Tigerman and Associates Ltd. (later, Tigerman McCurry Architects), in Chicago. He also taught at several universities in the United States. A collection of his papers is held by the Ryerson & Burnham Libraries in the Art Institute of Chicago. The residential apartment building originally named "Boardwalk Apartments", located at the southeast corner of Montrose and Clarendon Avenues and completed in 1974, was Tigerman's first built project inspired by Mies van der Rohe. In later years, Tigerman's diverse design style progressively assumed more sensual and dramatic qualities. Tigerman's early skill with curves and perspective expanded to include organic shapes, bright color, topiary, and allegory. From the days of his early eclectic stylings, Tigerman developed into an idiosyncratic theorist. Laurence Booth founded Booth Hansen in 1980 with the belief that spirited, meaningful, and useful buildings can be realized with an organized and open creative process. As Design Principal, he leads the conceptual development of every project at the firm, always beginning with the conviction that each client, landscape, and building program is unique and demands knowledge and creativity to achieve the best results. In a career spanning more than 50 years, Larry has been awarded numerous honors for his design work. Larry is a Clinical Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Richard C. Halpern/Rise International Distinguished Architect in Residence at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Larry maintains a strong presence in Chicago's cultural landscape. Benjamin Horace (Ben) Weese (born 1929) in Evanston, Illinois is an American architect hailing from Chicago, and a member of the arch.
