Covers are plain with gilt lettering on the spine. All edges are sprinkled in brown ink. Volume I contains a black and white frontispiece of Hugh Swinton Legare, protected by a tissue leaf. Volume I contains biographical notes, diplomatic correspondence, private correspondence, orations, speeches, and other contents. lxxiii, 558 pp. Volume II contains "Contributions to the Southern Review" in sixteen chapters. 598 pp. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Hugh Swinton Legare (1797 to 1843) was an American lawyer and politician. He became a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, founded and edited the Southern Review, and also became the Attorney General under President John Tyler. He also served as Secretary of State ad interim from May 8, 1843, until his death. (Wikipedia). CONDITION: Good only. Ex-library with typical library spore. Erosion on both spines. Cover board of Volume II is detached and absent. The other three boards are either detached or hanging on by a thread. Overall wear, yet pagination appears complete in both volumes. Unmarked except for a number written within the front endpapers. Very little foxing, and leaves have lightly, evenly toned. A readable copy. At over 4 lbs., due to the size and weight of this set, an additional shipping charge may apply. Full refund if not satisfied.
