The book's contents include: A history of the Society of Writers to the Signet, a legal body that originated in 1594; An early history of the Scottish Signet, the private royal seal that the writers were entitled to use and supervise; A list of the society's members from its beginning through 1935; A list of the society's office-bearers; Abstracts of the minutes from the society, its commissioners, and its council.
