Dialectatlassen van het Nederlandse taalgebied bestaan sedert decennia; dit is echter de eerste die gebaseerd is op een systematisch opgestelde vragenlijst waarin de hele interne taalgeschiedenis van de Neder…landse fonologie en morfologie een neerslag heeft gevonden. Tussen 1979 en 1994 is deze vragenlijst op 574 plaatsen zowel in Nederland als in Vlaams-Belgie en Frans-Vlaanderen afgevraagd. Daarna is het materiaal door een beperkt aantal transscribeurs voor wetenschappelijk onderzoek gereed gemaakt. Het beperkte aantal streng geselecteerde medewerkers is een garantie voor de homogeniteit van de opnames. De kaarten worden toegelicht in een omstandig technisch en inhoudelijk commentaar, waarbij ook de relevante literatuur vermeld wordt. Bij elke kaart bezorgen de auteurs een bespreking van structurele en historische aspecten van de evolutie. In de derde aflevering van de atlas zullen belangrijke conclusies in verband met deze evolutie bijeengebracht, en met synthesekaarten toegelicht worden. 777 g.
