The present work compiles over 150 poems, including recent poems by Hart Crane, Lonie Adams, Wallace Stevens, and more; and ÒChange,Ó a previously unpublished poem by Stanley Kunitz. The Wallace Stevens poems, including ÒThe Snow Man,Ó appear here two years before the second edition of his debut collection, Harmonium; the second edition truly introduced his poetry to the public after only 100 copies of the first edition were sold. Octavo. xiv, 237 pp. With engraved border on title-page, plus large engraved initial on page three, and two engraved headpieces. Blue paper-covered boards, quarter vellum, with gilt-titled spine. Light toning to endpapers but overall a near-fine copy in the original dust jacket (designed by Bernard Salomon). One of 1,000 copies printed for subscribers by the Stratford Press. Fifty hors commerce copies were also printed. The poems are supplemented with a preface by Genevieve Taggard (1894 Ð 1948), a professor, Guggenheim Fellow, Dickinson biographer, and author of thirteen collections of poetry. Her poetry collections include For Eager LoversÊ(1922),ÊCalling Western UnionÊ(1936), andÊNot Mine to Finish: Poems 1928Ð1934Ê(1934). Taggard also edited the anthologyÊMay Days: An Anthology of Verse from Masses-LiberatorÊ(1925). She was a contributing editor for the Marxist journalÊThe New Masses and the founder and editor of the poetry journal Measure.…
