Format 25 x 17,5 cm. ------ 1298 pages. **************************** "" L'édition d'une revue de cinéma, en 1952 (un an après le n° 1 des Cahiers du cinéma) était une aventure : sans la moindre subvention, appuyée par les “cinéphiles…” du ciné-club et par quelques libraires spécialisés, la question lancinante était “pourra-t-on payer l'imprimeur ?” À force d'obstination, et en restant modeste dans la présentation, Positif parvint à tenir un rythme de parution presque mensuel, et même à agrandir son format, jusqu'à intéresser, au n° 10, “Les Éditions de Minuit” : Jérôme Lindon permet un pas en avant. L'affaire - si l'on peut dire ! - était sur ses rails. Le vrai nerf de ce combat fut sans doute moins l'argent que la passion : la volonté commune d'une équipe soudée autour de l'amour du cinéma et, plus précisément, de quelques idées forces, de quelques auteurs fétiches. Nous mîmes en avant Buñuel, Huston, Vigo, Prévert, un certain esprit non-conformiste, surréaliste, libertaire. Près d'un demi-siècle plus tard, ces options de Positif n'ont pas changé. Bernard Chardère regroupa d'abord quelques amis lyonnais, Paul Louis Thirard, Jacques Demeure, auxquels vinrent s'ajouter Roger Tailleur, Louis Seguin puis Ado Kyrou, Robert Benayoun. Bientôt Michel Ciment allait prendre le relai, qu'il n'a pas lâché, dans l'animation de cet atelier de réflexion et d'agitation autour du cinéma, toujours considéré moins comme un “art” que comme un moyen d'expression. Avec ce début de reprint de la collection de Positif, Jean-Michel Place rend à nouveau accessibles des numéros depuis longtemps épuisés, dont nombre d'articles jalonnent l'époque bouillonnante que furent les années 50 pour la critique cinématographique. Mais notre premier souci, c'est la vie même de notre revue. On sait qu'en cherchant un éditeur dans l'annuaire, nous tombâmes sur un Fasquelle qui n'était pas celui qu'on croyait, et qui édita cette série de Positif, on n'a jamais bien compris pourquoi (.) À force d'obstination, et en restant modeste dans la présentation, Positif parvint à tenir un rythme de parution presque mensuel, et même à agrandir son format, jusqu'à intéresser, au n° 10, Les Éditions de Minuit : Jérôme Lindon permet un pas en avant. L'affaire - si l'on peut dire ! - était sur ses rails. Le vrai nerf de ce combat fut sans doute moins l'argent que la passion : la volonté commune d'une équipe soudée autour de l'amour du cinéma et, plus précisément, de quelques idées forces, de quelques auteurs fétiches. Nous mîmes en avant Buñuel, Huston, Vigo, Prévert, un certain esprit non-conformiste, surréaliste, libertaire. Près d'un demi-siècle plus tard, ces options de Positif n'ont pas changé. Bernard Chardère regroupa d'abord quelques amis lyonnais, Paul Louis Thirard, Jacques Demeure, auxquels vinrent s'ajouter Roger Tailleur, Louis Seguin puis Ado Kyrou, Robert Benayoun. Bientôt Michel Ciment allait prendre le relai, qu'il n'a pas lâché, dans l'animation de cet atelier de réflexion et d'agitation autour du cinéma, toujours considéré moins comme un Art que comme un moyen d'expression. Avec ce début de reprint de la collection de Positif, Jean-Michel Place rend à nouveau accessibles des numéros depuis longtemps épuisés, dont nombre d'articles jalonnent l'époque bouillonnante que furent les années 50 pour la critique cinématographique.
