Greek armies marched through Bactria after Alexander's conquests. Saka and Scythian horsemen thundered across the eastern Iranian plateau. Buddhist monasteries rose where sacred Zoroastrian fires once burned. Hephthalite rulers carved kingdoms from the highlands, while Turkic and Khalaj tribes descended from the Central Asian steppes into the valleys and passes of Afghanistan. Persian, Aramaic, Bactrian, and Sanskrit echoed across the trade routes where caravans carried not only silk and spices, but also ideas, beliefs, customs, and bloodlines.Within this vast historical crucible, identities did not emerge suddenly or from a single ancestor. They were formed slowly across centuries of migration, assimilation, conflict, and survival. This work argues that the Pashtuns were not the product of a single tribe, a sacred genealogy, or a royal invention. Rather, they emerged organically through the blending of eastern Iranian peoples with waves of Saka, Scythian, Hephthalite, Turkic, and Khalaj influences, shaped by the harsh geography of mountains, valleys, and frontier life.Rejecting the pre-modern era myth that traces Pashtun origins solely to Qais Abdul Rashid in the seventh century, this book restores a far older, richer and lived history-one rooted in the ancient world of Eastern Iran and Greater Khorasan. It explores how language, culture, overlapping beliefs, immigration, assimilation, tribal identity, and political traditions gradually crystallized over a millennium into the Pashtun society known today.Combining historical narrative with scholarly investigation, this work revisits forgotten sources, archaeological evidence, linguistic evolution, and regional histories to uncover the lost centuries buried beneath legend. It is a story of endurance through invasion, adaptation through change, and survival against empire after empire. The main objective of t…he research was to prepare activated carbon from an agricultural solid waste, coconut coir and to determine its effectiveness in removing textile dyes from aqueous solution and in textile dye waste treatment. The coconut coir activated carbon (CCAC) and a commercial activated carbon (CAC) were characterised in terms of ash content, bulk density, pH, pHZPC, surface area, micropore area, micropore volume, average pore diameter, surface morphology, surface acidic functional groups, basic sites and surface functional groups. Adsorption of four different classes of textile dyes, namely Acid Red 18 (AR 18), Disperse Red 343 (DR 343), Reactive Yellow 15 (RY 15) and Direct Blue 86 (DB 86) by CCAC and CAC were examined. 152 pp. Englisch.
