The authors employs a range of statistical and computational tools to analyze poetic texts, demonstrating how these methods can uncover patterns and trends that might not be evident through traditional literary analysis. The book covers various aspects of poetry, including meter, rhyme, and thematic elements, and shows how quantitative analysis can enhance our understanding of these components. Key features include: - Introduction to Quantitative Methods (an accessible guide to the basic principles and techniques of quantitative analysis, tailored for literary scholars); - Case Studies (detailed analyses of specific poems and poets, illustrating the practical application of quantitative methods); - Interdisciplinary Approach (integration of concepts from linguistics, computer science, and statistics to enrich the study of poetry); - Data Visualization (use of graphs, charts, and other visual tools to present findings in an intuitive and engaging manner). "Quantitative Analysis of Poetic Texts" is an essential resource for researchers, students, and scholars interested in the intersection of literature and quantitative research. It opens up new avenues for exploring poetic texts and offers a fresh perspective on literary analysis, making it a valuable addition to the fields of literary studies and digital humanities.

Common objects of literary studies such as rhythm, semantic explications, interpretation and personal impressions are avoided. Only those properties of poetic texts are taken into account that could be quantified. The major chapters contain the analysis of phonic phenomena (frequency, euphony, assonance, alliteration, aggregation, rhyme), word properties (aspects of frequency, length, richness, word classes, sequences of word properties, characterisations). The synergetic control cycle is the result of the study of mutual links between properties. For all methods both statistical tests (evaluation, comparison), theoretical derivations (models), and examples are presented. The book is dedicated to the work of the famous Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu whose complete work was analysed, which made detailed illustrations of the method possible. The methods can be used mutatis mutandis for any language and text. It is the first comprehensive quantitative analysis of a poetic work.
