Jahhrunderts, ein Liebling der Frauen, ein - nach heutigen Maßstäben - regelrechter Popstar der Opern- und Operettenwelt: Richard Tauber , der König des Belcanto.Seine Platten waren Melodien für Millionen, seine Konzerte und Gastspiele ausverkauft, seine Tourneen umjubelt. Lieder wie Gern hab' ich die Frau'n geküßt oder Dein ist mein ganzes Herz sind auch heute noch richtige Ohrwürmer. Mehr als 50 Jahre nach seinem Tod werden Taubers Platten noch immer millionenfach verkauft. Dabei hatte es zuerst gar nicht nach einer großen Sängerkarriere ausgesehen.1891 als uneheliches Kind einer Sängerin aus Linz geboren, lernte er seinen leiblichen Vater erst mit einigen Jahren Verspätung kennen. Mit 16 stand für ihn fest, dass er Sänger werden wollte. Aber ihm wurde abgeraten, diesen Beruf zu wählen. Er besitze einen Zwirnsfaden, aber keine Stimme, so der Kammersänger Leopold Demuth aus Wien.Doch Tauber war resistent gegen alle Kritik und debütierte 1913 im Stadttheater Chemnitz mit Mozarts Zauberflöte - ein Riesenerfolg. Später sang er alle großen Rollen des Opern-Repertoires. Es folgten Film- und Operettenerfolge.Im Smoking, mit einem weißen Seidenschal um den Hals, das rechte Auge monokelbewehrt, betörte er sein Publikum.Doch in die Traumkarriere platzte der Alptraum. Judenlümmel raus aus Deutschland! brüllte es auch in Berlin. Vor dem Hotel Kempinski wurde Richard Tauber zusammengeschlagen. Die Nazis vertrieben den Halbjuden zuerst aus Deutschland, später aus Wien.Als Tauber , der stets auf großem Fuße lebte, 1948 im Alter von 56 Jahren im Londoner Exil an Lungenkrebs starb, war er bankrott. Er hatte 750.000 Mark Steuerschulden, das Geld für sein Begräbnis wurde unter den Trauergästen gesammelt.Michael Jürgs hat die Richard- Tauber -Biographie geschrieben: ein Buch über den großen Tenor, aber auch über die Zeit, die er sowohl genoss als auch erlitt. Zu der Biographie gehört eine CD mit berühmten Liedern des Sängers, die zwischen 1922 und 1947 aufgenommen wurden. ).
