Softcover. Condizione: Fine. 1st edition. FINE book, 0.1" of each spine corner scuffed. AS NEW otherwise; both covers & the insides. In VG publisher's original box. Michael Anthonioz's "VERVE the Ultimate Review of Art and Literature (1937-1960)" was a 1988 Abrams publication. In it Anthonioz states the covers were done under Matisse's direct supervision. It quotes a letter from Matisse to Teriade imploring he be notified of any problem in printing the cover. This English language printing was slightly preceded by the French printing. This copy likely the best, French or English, Verve # 1 in existence. Immaculate and intense cover colors, it is free of the lightest scuffing or faintest scratch, even when held at all conceiveably angles of light. Rear cover in identical scratch and scuff free condition. Gold Esquire Coronet sticker on tp bottom states they were Verve's sole American rep. THERE IS ONE TYPE OF TRIVIAL FLAW: 1/10" of each corner of the spine ends are scuffed, whereas tips of the other corners perfectly square and have no hint of scuffing. QUITE NICE BOX; box's cover litho has a few light scratchs and minor scuffing. When placing the book and box side by side the book cover's colors are noticably more vived. Unfortunately the difference is not enough to show on the scan. Box & book have been handled with great care though the BOX SIDES are SPLITTING in 10-12 places. Splits repaired with archival tissue. Matisse cover art. (illustratore).…
