The John-Donkey was a satirical magazine first published on January 1st, 1848. Distributed by George Dexter in New York, it was supplied by Burgess, Stringer & Co., W.H. Graham, and R.G. Berford & Co., in New York, s well as G.B. Zieber & Co., in Philadelphia. This humorous periodical, like many of its time, aimed to critique and satirize political, social, and literary issues through illustrations, essays, and comic content. Curiously finding humor at the bottom of page 3, "Nice Job, we understand that mr. E.A. Poe has been employed to furnish the railing for the new railroad over Broadway. He was seen going up street a few days ago, apparently laying out the road." First issue of a legendary rarity in collectible American magazines. Frank L.
