Newport's oldest neighborhood organization, the Point Association has served its community for over five decades. "This publication marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of The Point Association. it is the second such pamphlet, the first, Here and There On The Point, having been published eighteen years ago. All of the articles have appeared in The Green Light, The Association's quarterly bulletin. Some have been repeated here, some brought up to date, and some new ones added. The Green Light was started by Edith Ballinger Price, who continued as editor until 1962 when Esther Bates took her place; followed in 1975 by our present editor, Rosalys Hall. The Point is the oldest section of Newport. Here some of the country's history was shaped and her traditions have been ever cherished. The Point Association's twenty-five years have been marked by accomplishments, changes for the better, showing how a determined and dedicated people can effect what happens in their community. Houses have been, and are being restored, some of which antedate the Revolution. Many trees and shrubs have been planted. Storer Park was purchased, landscaped, and deeded to the City. Arnold Park and others have been created and beautified. We are indebted to the Newport Historical Society and the Redwood Library for help with research, and to our editorial staff whose long hours of service have made this book possible." - from the Preliminary Page by William H. Fullerton, President.
