Buch. Condizione: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Staphylococci are Gram-positive bacteria commonly found in humans, animals, birds, and reptiles. The most common Staphylococcus species include Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis; both are part of healthy human skin flora and, in most cases, harmless. However, both of these bacteria have high clinical significance due to their ability to breach the skin barrier and colonize/form biofilms, becoming pathogenic and antimicrobial-resistant. Especially, S. aureus biofilm formation is known to cause various infections, including skin abscesses, pneumonia, endocarditis, implant-associated infections (e.g., catheters, prosthetic valves), osteomyelitis, UTI, sepsis, and food poisoning. Many strains of S. aureus (e.g., methicillin-resistant S. aureus, MRSA) produce enzymes that help them to resist beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g., penicillin, methicillin, etc.). Similarly, S. epidermidis is also known to cause infection of implanted medical devices. Bacterial resistance to common antibiotics and disinfectants is driving a rise in superbugs, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is leading us toward a catastrophe, with the health system failing. Reducing bacterial-associated infections and AMR needs a collective 'One Health' approach, which includes emphasizing practicing rigorous hygiene, food safety, antibiotic stewardship (e.g., avoiding indiscriminate use of antibiotics for the common cold or viral infections, following prescriptions strictly), and enforcing strict laws to limit the use of antibiotics in livestock and agriculture to avert resistant strains from crossing over into human populations.…

Buch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Bacterial biofilms are colonies of bacterial cells embedded in their self-produced matrix composed of polysaccharides, DNA, and proteins. They protect bacterial cells against antibiotics, antibacterial agents, soaps and detergents, and shear stress. Some of the most common biofilm-associated infections in humans include urinary tract infections, infection of wounds and surgical sites, diabetic foot ulcers, dental caries (tooth decay) and gingivitis (gum inflammation), ventilator-associated infections, sinusitis, microbial keratitis, secondary infection related to Covid-19 and other viral infections, and so on. Bacterial resistance to common antibiotics (e.g., penicillin, gentamycin, erythromycin, ciprofloxacin, etc.) is driving us to a catastrophic failure of our health systems. Strategies to develop novel antibacterial agents and technology must be prioritized to combat and eradicate biofilms and their associated challenges. This book provides a comprehensive overview of biofilms with chapters on bacterial virulence factors, quorum sensing in bacteria, antimicrobial resistance in bacteria, strategies to develop new antibacterial agents, and much more. 392 pp. Englisch.…

Buch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - Print on Demand Titel. Neuware -Emerging antibiotic resistance of bacteria is driving us to catastrophic failure of the healthcare system. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one such pathogen that is responsible for causing nosocomial infections, urinary tract infections, cystic fibrosis, otitis media, and infections of wounds and burns. P. aeruginosa is a critical pathogen as defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) due to its intrinsic and adaptive competence to defy antibiotics and persist as a superbug. This book covers a wide array of subjects relevant to bacterial biofilms specifically focusing on P. aeruginosa and associated infections. It provides readers with a clear and comprehensive overview of biofilm formation and associated detrimental impacts. In addition, this book also examines topics related to biosynthesis virulence factors by P. aeruginosa to facilitate biofilm formation, antibiotic resistance mechanisms, and infections. 114 pp. Englisch. …
