Paperback. Condizione: New. 1°. Picasso never considered ceramics a minor art form and was thus able to explore, through this medium, artistic practices that had preoccupied him since his Cubist years. Ceramics also allowed him to reconnect with ancient and popular traditions, as well as with the iconography and myths of the Mediterranean. After some experimentation at the beginning of the century, Picasso only devoted himself to ceramics from 1947 onward, in the Madoura studio in Vallauris. The artist then authorised Suzanne and Georges Ramié to create limited-edition reproductions of some of his ceramics, covering his entire production between 1947 and 1971. These editions, which represent a continuation of his output, helped popularise his work. This catalogue provides some keys to better understanding Picasso's creative process, his motivations, as well as the creative processes behind his ceramic edition series.Text in French with an English section at the back.…

Paperback. Condizione: New. This book explores the great interest that Pablo Picasso had in ceramics, which he certainly didn't consider a minor art, but a means of artistic expression in its own right, like sculpture, painting and graphics. In Vallauris, at the Madoura ceramic laboratories, Picasso dedicated himself to working clay for a period of 25 years, from 1946 to 1971, producing thousands of unique pieces. This volume retraces this exceptional chapter of the Picasso's art, through 50 ceramics from the Picasso of the Musée National Picasso in Paris - a core of inestimable value, which represents almost half of the museum's large collection - placed in a fertile and unprecedented dialogue with the direct sources of his inspiration: classic ceramics with red and black figures, the Etruscan buccheri, Spanish and Italian popular ceramics, 15th century Italian graffiti, and examples of the Mediterranean area with iconographies of fish, fantastic animals, owls and birds, as well as terracottas from Mesoamerican cultures. A chapter is dedicated to the relationship between Picasso and Faenza through unpublished documents from the historical archive of the MIC, and to the historical video by Luciano Emmer of 1954 (Picasso a Vallauris).Text in English and Italian.…

Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Key ceramic works by Picasso alongside the ancient pottery that inspired himOver a 25-year span, from 1946 to 1971, Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) produced a ceramic oeuvre that has slowly become an immensely popular dimension of his vast output. Working at the Madoura pottery in Vallauris, he created thousands of unique works that reflect the abiding importance of this medium for him. This book selects 50 ceramic pieces from the Musée national Picasso-Paris, which represents almost the half of the celebrated ceramic collection of the museum, along with a selection of pieces from the Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche in Faenza, Italy, which provided direct sources of inspiration for the artist. These include pieces in the classical black-figure and red-figure ceramic style; bucchero vases from Etruria; Spanish and Italian popular pottery; incised pottery from the Italian Quattrocento; specimens of Mediterranean ceramics painted with animals; and Mesoamerican ceramic vessels.…
