Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. Gooch, Thelma (illustratore). First Thus. Orig. published in 1925 as just "Connie Loring,'' this was the very first book in the 2-book series designed for girls in the early 20th century, each featuring a heroine with different abilities & inclinations, most involved in solving mysteries (like their counterpart who would come around in the 1930s, Nancy Drew). Ms Garis was a writer in the same Stratemeyer Syndicate that produced the Drew books, but she insisted on writing under her own name. Set in the author's own New Jersey, this first book finds Connie exploring her artistic side & helping an artist with a crippled hand complete his picture. Artwork was provided by another pioneering woman, Thelma Gooch, who did the glossy frontispiece, 3 glossy internals, & cover art (though this is unattributed). In 240 pages + 9 additional unnumbered pages of ads for other Grosset & Dunlap series titles in rear. Maintaining the original appearance & text as the originally titled one, this hardcover has olive green cloth-covered boards stamped with a black image of Connie inside an artist's palette, lettered in bright orange to front cover/black to spine. Condition is Near Fine: exceptionally clean & bright, interior pages are creamy white with mild, age-appropriate tanning, completely unmarked save for large former owner's bookplate covering entire free front endpaper. Extremely slight corner bumping. The unclipped DJ is equally Near Fine, with slight rubbing & a few tiny chips/mild creases; colors bright; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover Free!
