He is well known in nearly all European countries and even in the United States. But how did he become that famous or maybe even a label for today's view on English humour In my research paper I want to point out Cleese's significance for British Comedy and humour. At first, I would like to give a general definition of the term and at the same time look at different types of humour in order to investigate why people start grinning or laughing in certain situations. I will present some criteria which can detect different types of humour and consider humour on phonological and syntactical levels.Then I want to work out if there is a special concept of humour in the United Kingdom and if this humour even characterises the British culture. In a next step I will compare the stereotypical concept of British and German humour to show that they are at least rated as being contradictory.After I have shown some typical styles and techniques of the British humour, my central focus will be on John Cleese. I want to give an overview of his life and introduce people who are close to him or supported him in his career. In doing so I will also concentrate on his major achievements: e.g. Monty Python's Flying Circus and their films and Fawlty Towers. Their popularity throughout the world is really remarkable and shows that Cleese and his friends possibly managed to broadcast a new sense of humour. I will therefore finally analyse their and particular Cleese's share in British sense of humour.

But how many of you remember your dreams and whydo we dream at all - The first question can easily be answered: About 80% according to thestatistics (Jouvet 27). The answer to the second question, however, has puzzled humankindfor a long time and even today scientists do not agree on one explicit theory.In my term paper I will present various answers to the question of dreaming given bydifferent dream analysts. At first, I will give a short historical overview on the role of dreamsand how they have been seen in different societies. Whereas the Ancient Egypt and the bibleattributed a supernatural element to dreams, Aristotle introduced the psychological characterof dreams.The main work of my paper will be the analysis of three major perspectives on dreamtheories: The psychoanalytical, the biological, and the cognitive perspective. Freud arguedthat dreams express unconscious desires and underlying wishes which he termed the latentcontent. In contrast, Hobson & McCarley believe that dreams are created because of randomactivity in the brain during a certain state of sleep (REM). More recent studies done byStickgold try to be more precise. He argues that the brain is active during sleep because it triesto identify new connections to learn new things from old memory.In a final step, I will apply the different dream theories on a dream from the movie'Requiem for a Dream' (USA, 2000) in order to outline and compare their main features andto show what a dream can tell us about the personality and the life of the dreamer according tothe three perspectives.

His representation of women, in particular the ways in which his female roles are interpreted and put on stage, have become topics of scientific interest. Especially the young women often show vitality, great intelligence, and a strong sense of personal independence, which marks them as 'queen[s] of comedy' (Palmer 72). Therefore, they are often referred to as Shakespeare's heroines.In the following, I want to show their importance and point out that each heroine, although they all share character traits, has distinct and unique qualities. In doing so, I will occasionally refer to a secondary literature and involve positions of different critics. Though, my attention will be focussed on the plays treated in this research paper: A Midsummer Night's Dream, As You Like It, Much Ado About Nothing, The Tempest, and Twelfth Night. On the basis of these romantic comedies, I will analyse how the young women are presented and subsequently compare them among one another.In the first part I will look at each heroine individually and introduce their plays. Then I will develop possible similarities between them: Beautiful but unworldly Miranda seems to be totally controlled by her father Prospero, but she shows a strong will in planning a shared future with Ferdinand and she is aware of her superiority to the savage Caliban. Hermia's father similarly chooses her husband. With magic help, however, she and Helena manage to come together with the right partner. Moreover, Helena reveals that she believes in the transformative power of love (MND I.2, 233-4).Viola in Twelfth Night is in a way almost the opposite of Rosalind in As You Like It, although both plays deal with a cross-dressed heroine. Whereas Rosalind can tease Orlando, always knowing that he is in love with her and being moreover able to reveal herself to him whenever she wants, Viola feels trapped in her disguise and has to work for the man she is in love with and even woo another woman on his behalf. Beatrice may not disguise herself in order to show her power like Rosalind, but she is nevertheless a strong female character: she marries only after asserting her dislike for the traditionally minor role of women in marriage and courtship in that time.[.].

Die Leidtragenden sind hierbei stets dieselben: Die Lehrer. Öffentlichen Meinungen zufolge liegt es an ihnen, dass die Schule sich nicht weiterentwickelt habe und somit den Schüler von heute falsch behandele. Des Weiteren sei schon die Lehrerbildung schuld an dem Versagen der Lehrer, da sie nicht ausreichend auf den Berufsalltag vorbereite.In meiner Hausarbeit untersuche ich die Rolle des Lehrers und zeige mögliche Probleme der Lehrerbildung, welche zu solch einem Bild des Lehrkörpers geführt haben könnten.Zu Beginn schaue ich auf die Geschichte des Lehrers und seiner Bildung. Ich möchte den Entwicklungsprozess der individuellen Lehrkörper und ihren sozialen Stellenwert im historischen Kontext darstellen: Angefangen als Diener der Kirche geht er einen mühevollen Weg zum Staatsdiener und erlebt bis zu dem heutigen Lehrerbild nicht nur während der Zeiten der Weltkriege starke Rückschläge. Im zweiten Teil betrachte ich speziell den Lehrer von heute und versuche Probleme der Lehrerbildung aufzuführen. Dabei zerlege ich die Lehrerbildung in die verschiedenen Phasen und Orte.Jede der Phasen:1. an den Universitäten und Pädagogischen Hochschulen,2. an Studienseminaren und Schulen,3. an Einrichtungen der Lehrerfortbildungwerde ich zunächst einzeln betrachten und im Anschluss feststellen, ob sie miteinander verbunden sind bzw. aufeinander aufbauen. Danach vergleiche ich die deutsche Lehrerbildung mit der Bildung der Vereinigten Staaten und verschiedener europäischer Länder, um Reformideen für die Lehrerbildung in Deutschland herauszuarbeiten.Schließlich versuche ich, ausgehend von der Geschichte und den heutigen Anforderungen an den Lehrer, Merkmale eines guten Lehrers aufzuzeigen und zu überprüfen inwiefern dieses Bild den Erwartungen der öffentlichen Meinung entspricht.Im frühen Mittelalter nahm die Kirche die Aufgabe der Erziehung und Bildung auf sich. Die Pädagogik war Teil der Theologie und die Schule eine kirchliche Institution. Mönche übernahmen die Erziehung von Ordensbrüdern und mit Genehmigung auch von Laien, welche jedoch hauptsächlich aus dem Adelsstand kamen. Die erste Hofschule wurde von Karl dem Großen eingerichtet und genoss während seiner Amtszeit noch großes Ansehen.

In der Beispielsuche des elektronischen Wörterbuches CASIO EW-G6000C lassen sich beider deutsch-englischen Suche nach Worte und Worten 18 bzw. 14 Beispielsätze nden (siehe Abbildung 1.1). Wiederholt man den Vorgang mit dem Suchwort Wörter bzw. Wörtern , wird jedoch kein einziges Beispiel gefunden (siehe Abbildung 1.2).Ist auch nach jahrzehntelanger Forschung keine empirisch begründete Methode für einen optimalen Wortschatzerwerb bestätigt worden [Takac 2008], so zeigt schon die Häu gkeitsverteilung dieser Suchergebnisse, dass das Erlernen von Worten beim Fremdsprachenerwerb einen höheren Stellenwert einnehmen sollte als das bloße Wörterlernen. Ist auch nach jahrzehntelanger Forschung keine empirisch begründete Methode für einen optimalen Wortschatzerwerb bestätigt worden [Takac 2008], so zeigt schon die Häügkeitsverteilung dieser Suchergebnisse, dass das Erlernen von Worten beim Fremdsprachenerwerb einen höheren Stellenwert einnehmen sollte als das bloße Wörterlernen. Die vorliegende Arbeit legt daher den Schwerpunkt auf eine satzpaarbasierte (also auch wortebasierte) Wortschatzarbeit. Es soll untersucht werden, welche Argumente sich aus der Betrachtung der aktuell praktizierten Wortschatzarbeit und dem Feld der Korpuslinguistik ergeben, die sowohl für einen satzpaarbasierten Ansatz im Unterricht als auch für selbst- gesteuerte Wortschatzarbeit sprechen.

His representation of women, in particular the ways in which his female roles are interpreted and put on stage, have become topics of scientific interest. Especially the young women often show vitality, great intelligence, and a strong sense of personal independence, which marks them as 'queen[s] of comedy' (Palmer 72). Therefore, they are often referred to as Shakespeare's heroines.In the following, I want to show their importance and point out that each heroine, although they all share character traits, has distinct and unique qualities. In doing so, I will occasionally refer to a secondary literature and involve positions of different critics. Though, my attention will be focussed on the plays treated in this research paper: A Midsummer Night's Dream, As You Like It, Much Ado About Nothing, The Tempest, and Twelfth Night. On the basis of these romantic comedies, I will analyse how the young women are presented and subsequently compare them among one another.In the first part I will look at each heroine individually and introduce their plays. Then I will develop possible similarities between them: Beautiful but unworldly Miranda seems to be totally controlled by her father Prospero, but she shows a strong will in planning a shared future with Ferdinand and she is aware of her superiority to the savage Caliban. Hermia's father similarly chooses her husband. With magic help, however, she and Helena manage to come together with the right partner. Moreover, Helena reveals that she believes in the transformative power of love (MND I.2, 233-4).Viola in Twelfth Night is in a way almost the opposite of Rosalind in As You Like It, although both plays deal with a cross-dressed heroine. Whereas Rosalind can tease Orlando, always knowing that he is in love with her and being moreover able to reveal herself to him whenever she wants, Viola feels trapped in her disguise and has to work for the man she is in love with and even woo another woman on his behalf. Öffentlichen Meinungen zufolge liegt es an ihnen, dass die Schule sich nicht weiterentwickelt habe und somit den Schüler von heute falsch behandele. Des Weiteren sei schon die Lehrerbildung schuld an dem Versagen der Lehrer, da sie nicht ausreichend auf den Berufsalltag vorbereite.In meiner Hausarbeit untersuche ich die Rolle des Lehrers und zeige mögliche Probleme der Lehrerbildung, welche zu solch einem Bild des Lehrkörpers geführt haben könnten.Zu Beginn schaue ich auf die Geschichte des Lehrers und seiner Bildung. Ich möchte den Entwicklungsprozess der individuellen Lehrkörper und ihren sozialen Stellenwert im historischen Kontext darstellen: Angefangen als Diener der Kirche geht er einen mühevollen Weg zum Staatsdiener und erlebt bis zu dem heutigen Lehrerbild nicht nur während der Zeiten der Weltkriege starke Rückschläge. Im zweiten Teil betrachte ich speziell den Lehrer von heute und versuche Probleme der Lehrerbildung aufzuführen. Dabei zerlege ich die Lehrerbildung in die verschiedenen Phasen und Orte.Jede der Phasen:1. an den Universitäten und Pädagogischen Hochschulen,2. an Studienseminaren und Schulen,3. an Einrichtungen der Lehrerfortbildungwerde ich zunächst einzeln betrachten und im Anschluss feststellen, ob sie miteinander verbunden sind bzw. aufeinander aufbauen. Danach vergleiche ich die deutsche Lehrerbildung mit der Bildung der Vereinigten Staaten und verschiedener europäischer Länder, um Reformideen für die Lehrerbildung in Deutschland herauszuarbeiten.Schließlich versuche ich, ausgehend von der Geschichte und den heutigen Anforderungen an den Lehrer, Merkmale eines guten Lehrers aufzuzeigen und zu überprüfen inwiefern dieses Bild den Erwartungen der öffentlichen Meinung entspricht.Im frühen Mittelalter nahm die Kirche die Aufgabe der Erziehung und Bildung auf sich. Die Pädagogik war Teil der Theologie und die Schule eine kirchliche Institution. Mönche übernahmen die Erziehung von Ordensbrüdern und mit Genehmigung auch von Laien, welche jedoch hauptsächlich aus dem Adelsstand kamen. But how did he become that famous or maybe even a label for today¿s view on English humour In my research paper I want to point out Cleese¿s significance for British Comedy and humour. At first, I would like to give a general definition of the term and at the same time look at different types of humour in order to investigate why people start grinning or laughing in certain situations. I will present some criteria which can detect different types of humour and consider humour on phonological and syntactical levels.Then I want to work out if there is a special concept of humour in the United Kingdom and if this humour even characterises the British culture. In a next step I will compare the stereotypical concept of British and German humour to show that they are at least rated as being contradictory.After I have shown some typical styles and techniques of the British humour, my central focus will be on John Cleese. I want to give an overview of his life and introduce people who are close to him or supported him in his career. In doing so I will also concentrate on his major achievements: e.g. Monty Python¿s Flying Circus and their films and Fawlty Towers. Their popularity throughout the world is really remarkable and shows that Cleese and his friends possibly managed to broadcast a new sense of humour. But how many of you remember your dreams and whydo we dream at all ¿ The first question can easily be answered: About 80% according to thestatistics (Jouvet 27). The answer to the second question, however, has puzzled humankindfor a long time and even today scientists do not agree on one explicit theory.In my term paper I will present various answers to the question of dreaming given bydifferent dream analysts. At first, I will give a short historical overview on the role of dreamsand how they have been seen in different societies. Whereas the Ancient Egypt and the bibleattributed a supernatural element to dreams, Aristotle introduced the psychological characterof dreams.The main work of my paper will be the analysis of three major perspectives on dreamtheories: The psychoanalytical, the biological, and the cognitive perspective. Freud arguedthat dreams express unconscious desires and underlying wishes which he termed the latentcontent. In contrast, Hobson & McCarley believe that dreams are created because of randomactivity in the brain during a certain state of sleep (REM). More recent studies done byStickgold try to be more precise.
