20 n.n. Bll., 646 SS., 1 Bl. (weiß), 29 SS., 1 Bll. (weiß), 12 Bll. Erste Ausgabe. STC 103. Adams C 1345. Reusch I, 255. Selten. First edition. First book edition of the Franconian scripts on the Byzantine iconoclastic controversy written after the Synod of Nicaea (787). Inner joints broken, fly-leaf missing, paste-down stamped, title and following leaf with small hole (minor loss of letters), somewhat waterstained, minimally browned and soiled. Contemporary blind-pressed pigskin (a little damaged). Rare. Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book is a trove of historical documents providing insights into the inner workings and practices of the Roman Catholic Church during the early medieval period. Compiled between the sixth and eighth centuries, this collection of papal letters, decrees, and other official acts offers a glimpse into the election, ordination, and daily administration of the Church during a time of significant political and religious upheaval. The documents reveal the complex process by which popes were chosen, from the initial gathering of clergy, nobles, and laity to the formal confirmation by the Byzantine emperor. They also shed light on the elaborate ceremonies and rituals surrounding the ordination of a new pope, emphasizing the profound spiritual and symbolic significance of the office. Beyond the formal procedures, the book provides valuable insights into the daily life and responsibilities of the pope as the head of the Church. Through correspondence with bishops, archbishops, and other ecclesiastical authorities, we gain a sense of the challenges and opportunities faced by the papacy in maintaining unity and coherence within a rapidly expanding and increasingly diverse Christian community. The book not only provides a detailed record of ecclesiastical practices but also offers a glimpse into the broader historical context of the early Middle Ages. It reflects the complex interplay between religious authority, political power, and cultural traditions, highlighting the central role played by the Church in shaping the social, intellectual, and spiritual landscape of the period. Overall, this book offers a rich and nuanced exploration of the papacy and the Roman Catholic Church during a pivotal period in Western history. Its insights are invaluable for anyone interested in understanding the origins and development of Christianity and the evolution of religious authority in the medieval world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. …
